Food Distribution

First Monday of the month at 2:00 unless the date falls on a holiday.

In connection with the Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC, we host a monthly food distribution for neighbors in need. Recipients can receive a variety of food items provided by the local food bank, and the offerings usually include fresh produce as well as non-perishable goods. In a typical month, we serve about 120 families, which represents approximately 40-450 people.

No appointment needed. Families can sign in at the table in front of the Education Building on N. Elizabeth St. to receive a car number as early as 12:30 pm. Distribution begins at 2:00 and continues until we run out of food.

Volunteer to Help

Want to help? Volunteers are needed from 12:45 pm to approximately 4:00 pm. But, any time you can donate between those hours is always greatly appreciated. Volunteer are needed to:

  • Greet and sign in recipients (starting at 12:30 pm)

  • Sort and package food (starting at 12:45 pm)

  • Load food into recipient vehicles (starting at 2:00 pm and continuing until all food is gone, typically around 4:00 pm)

Use the Contact Us form to get more information or to volunteer!

Community Meal

Last Tuesday of every month (except December) at 6:00 pm.

Join ESUMC friends and family in our Fellowship Hall under the Education Building for a delicious, home-cooked, meal every month at church. The meal is free. Come as you are - ALL are welcome! Feel free to bring a covered dish but don’t feel like you need to.

You can access our Fellowship Hall at the bottom of the parking lot that is on the left side of the Education Building. Come to the entrance near the playground.

cOMMUNITY gARDEN

We invite you to join us for gardening fun! Stop by on Saturday mornings around 10am. Bring garden gloves if you have them! Gardeners of all ages are welcome!

Everyone is welcome to come help in the gardens and to enjoy the produce and flowers it produces! Just stop by any Saturday and enjoy being outdoors with others!

Our community garden got its start about a decade ago, the vision for which came from its wonderful curator, Arthur Herring, and some other friends of Elizabeth Street, including Anathoth Garden.

We grow a rich variety of fruits and vegetables, and everything we grow is free for the picking.

Stop by and check it out, and help yourself to some delicious food from our stand next to Elizabeth Street. (SEASONAL)

CArve: fOOD dRIVE pROGRAM

Our focus on food for the Urban Ministry contains to reap many rewards for those in need of foods both via the serving line and in the Tuesday bagged distribution.

We encourage you to bring food items EVERY SUNDAY according to the following plan:
C -- First Sunday of each month is for CEREAL (and other breakfast food)
A -- Second Sunday is for APPLESAUCE and other canned fruit items
R -- Third Sunday is for RICE and pasta items
V -- Fourth Sunday is for canned VEGETABLES
E--  Fifth Sunday is for EVERYTHING -- bring any food items
This program helps us be mindful on a more regular basis that many of our neighbors are experiencing food shortages, and we hope that we can increase the donations we are making every month.
